Our Major Projects team has a UK-wide presence and typically they focus on projects that have a higher degree of value, complexity, longevity and risk. No project is too big for our Major Projects team.
Delivering Major Projects demands tried and tested methodologies for successful delivery, and we achieve this by deploying in accordance with the policies and processes of our ISO 9001 accredited Quality Management systems, and our Health, Safety and Environmental systems, which are also aligned to the SSE Group ISO 18001 and ISO 45001 accreditations.

Design
We love to be involved at the earliest stages of the project lifecycle where we can bring innovation and experience to the design and budgeting processes. Our BEMS sales consultants and technical team are experts in the design and specification of controls strategy within the built environment. We are particularly adept in sectors such as Critical Services / Data Centres; Universities; Healthcare; Life Sciences / Pharma; Energy Infrastructure; and Manufacturing. We bring forward the latest products and solutions from our manufacturer partners, Trend, Siemens and Distech, to ensure the best possible solutions are proposed. This consultative approach means our design input meets the project’s BEMS objectives whilst, at the same time, satisfying the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
We also sanity-check our design proposals with the manufacturers’ technical experts to rubber-stamp our design solutions. These close relationships with our BEMS manufacturer partners ensure we can deliver leading-edge solutions to you – often allowing us to specify products that aren’t yet available in the market and providing strong insights into future innovation.

Sadly, VE (Value Engineering) has become a euphemism for cost-cutting. But there is nothing we enjoy more than ensuring every last penny committed to the project brings value to you, and that means continually searching for better and more efficient ways for us to deliver the project solution. Whether that simply means replacing equal and approved products, or perhaps through the implementation of IoT, wireless and Bluetooth technologies, we have the potential solutions in our locker. Our extended international supply chain means we can achieve economies of scale in graphics, engineering and software design, particularly on projects with multiple loops of similar design. Sometimes, where costs considerably exceed expectations, the project requires root and branch re-design of the controls strategy and system, and we’re here to work with you on that too. Government Estate
The Estate was facing BEMS and network obsolescence and initially developed an open tender.
SSE, prioritising the needs of the estate, recognized that the original scope was not in the best interest of the building. Utilizing their extensive experience and technical capability, SSE identified the deficiencies in the initial scope and proposed revised options to the prison.
The revised scope included a thorough surveillance of the wiring network and topology, facilitating a staged upgrade from an outdated closed network protocol to a modern open protocol.
This approach provided substantial benefits to the prison, including enhanced system performance and reliability. Furthermore, SSE's meticulous planning ensured that the site remained fully operational throughout the upgrade process, with no disruptions to the facility.
