Roll-out of our improved 4G smart network
Our smart meters are about to get even better.
In response to the nationwide change from 2G/3G to 4G, we’re embarking on a network transition from 2G/3G to 4G. This means your data and smart meter will enjoy faster speeds so you can keep an even closer eye on your energy usage.
Everyone currently using a smart meter will receive the network upgrade – and our customers who are currently using an AMR meter or connected to a 2G/3G network will need a replacement smart meter to enjoy the faster network.
Don’t worry – you don’t have to do a thing. We’ll be in touch when we’re upgrading your network. But you can check out below for some more information.
New 4G smart network – What do I need to know?
When will this network transition happen? – We’re starting a 4G trial in November/December 2024. This is aligned with the nationwide regulatory objective to switch off all 2G/3G connections before 2033. The work will be staggered to minimise disruption, but we will be governed by engineer availability.
Questions and Answers
This network upgrade will be spread out over a number of years. The majority of our customers will not require a new smart meter. Instead, an upgrade Comms Hub - which will be harnessed by many customers - will provide quicker and improved data, so everyone can monitor their energy usage. But this work will take some time and we will be in touch if/when we need to replace your meter.
